It is known that there is a seismic gap in the marine area between Karpaz and Hatay, and it has not produced earthquakes for a long time, so energy accumulation occurs.

Here is the explanation; More than one earthquake, varying between 7.6-7.8 magnitudes, caused damage and death on the Eastern Anatolian Fault. Our pain is great. Condolences to Turkey. But the sad thing is that although it is known that these regions are first-degree earthquake zones, many of our people died under the buildings that were built and destroyed here. Earthquakes do not kill. Death comes and finds us by not building earthquake-proof houses. From the point of view of our island, the triggering of the East Anatolian Fault, such as the Değirmenlik fault and the Ovgos fault, can become active even if the faults over which our island passes, even if they do not move in sync. Likewise, including the dead sea fault that runs parallel to the Syrian coast. It is known that there is a seismic gap in the marine area, especially between Karpaz and Hatay, and that there has been no earthquake for a long time, so energy accumulation has taken place. What we need to do is to make projects in accordance with the rules set by KTMMOB and get a "VIS" for the projects. In order to control that the construction is done in accordance with the project, it is necessary to implement the building inspection rule and to have our public buildings, especially schools and hospitals, undergo earthquake resistance tests. Do not forget that earthquakes do not kill.
