According to official figures released by the Cyprus Addiction Treatment Agency on the occasion of World Cancer Day, tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable types of cancer. Tobacco use is responsible for 27% of all cancer types. According to the relevant statement of the Cyprus Addiction Treatment Institution, there are more than 60 carcinogenic substances in cigarette smoke that cause cancer development in the lungs and at least 16 other parts of the human body. "There is a misconception that e-cigarettes are less dangerous than burning. Electronic cigarette products contain high levels of nicotine, which is harmful to health and their use can lead to overdose, especially when combined with traditional cigarettes." In the statement, it was noted that in line with the priorities of the European Commission, the European Citizens' Initiative titled "Tobacco-Free Environment and the first smoke-free European generation by 2030" was launched on January 26, 2023, which enables citizens to participate in the formulation of European policies. -In cooperation with the European organization, he is the coordinator of the signature collection initiative in Cyprus.Source: Cyprus News Agency
